The term 'Artificial Sun' should not be confused with a new celestial body in the sky. Actually, it is a reactor labelled Artificial Sun because it mimics the energy-generation process taking place naturally in the Sun.

  It is nuclear energy derived from nuclear particles in atoms. Generation of nuclear energy can be achieved through two processes, viz.,

  Fission or fusion of nuclear particles brought about by bombardment with particles or rays. Fission is the process in which a neutron bombards a larger atom at a very high velocity, forcing it to achieve an excited state which, being unstable, splits into smaller atoms-also known as fission products. During the process, additional neutrons are also released, that can initiate a chain reaction which can be continuous unless stopped. When the atom splits, a tremendous amount of energy is released.
