Indian Paintings

   Ever walked into a museum? It could be the National Museum in Delhi, Chatrapati Shivaji Sangrahalya in Mumbai, or Nizam Museum in Hyderabad the pride of place is always taken by the paintings – miniature paintings. Beautiful, colourful, vibrant and alive, that even over many centuries old they still feel as if they have been painted just yesterday. Many courses exist today that help to save, restore these paintings.

   They have been painted in various regions of India – they can be found on paper, home walls, temple walls, rock walls, tree leaves, and even cloth. As they became famous the artists established their schools teaching their art to students with the help of Royal support and patronage. Paintings in India have been there since ages - the earliest paintings were rock paintings from pre-historic times, these were called petroglyphs.

   These are found at Bhimbetka in the rock shelters which are over 30,000....
