The Visva - Bharati University Shantiniketan an institution of national importance

   The name Visva – Bharati, literally means the unification of the world with India. Founded by the great poet, prophet and philosopher, Rabindranath Tagore, this institution aims at conferring Indian knowledge resources to the rest of the world through various academic disciplines and also enriching Indian resources with the derived philosophy from rest of the world.

   In May 1951 Visva-Bharati was declared as a central university and an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament. Visva-Bharati has the President of India as the Paridarsaka (Visitor) and the Governor of West Bengal as the Pradhana (Rector). The President of India appoints the Acharya (Chancellor) and the Upacharya (Vicechancellor) of the University. In Santiniketan learning would be a part of life's natural growth where every student will feel a sense of oneness with nature.
