Path To Freedom Major milestones that helped India gain independence from the British rule in 1947

  India’s freedom was earned through the dedication and sacrifices of a huge populace. The tolerance of the nation was at its zenith, while it was moving from struggles to struggles. They were proud to live and die for their motherland. The following are the steps that brought freedom to a nation that was enslaved for two centuries:

1861: Indian Councils Act gets passed. This law was to ensure Indian representation in the Governor General’s Council. The High Court act ensured the judiciary through High Courts. The Police Act of 1861 brought into existence, a systematized police force.

1862: The Indian Penal Code (IPC) was brought into action on January 1. Lord Elguin took over as the new Viceroy. 1865: Massive Droughts in Orissa.

1868: Punjab Tenancy Act was passed. A new railway line was opened from Ambala to Delhi.

1872: The first-ever census was taken in British India. Lord Mayo, Viceroy and Governor-General, was....
