Raja Ram Mohan Roy; Remembering Father of the Indian Renaissance

This year (2022) marks the 250th birth anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy and the historical 50 years of the Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation. He occupies an illustrious place among the builders of modern India.

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Government of India has initiated a year-long celebration which will continue till 22nd May 2023. The inaugural ceremony took place on 22nd May 2022 at Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Salt Lake, Kolkata, and at Science City Auditorium, Kolkata.

Raja Ram Mohan Roy was a philosopher, educationalist, journalist and visionary. He is also known as the father of the Indian Renaissance. He was named so by Gopal Krishna Gokhale for his prominent contribution to the Indian freedom struggle. Among his efforts, the elimination of the brutal and inhuman ‘Sati Pratha’ was the most outstanding.
