Teachers, who play a vital role in shaping the society, actually spend a mere 19.1% of their working hours in imparting knowledge. In the remaining time, they are busy with election duty, carrying out surveys and pulse polio campaigns and maintaining midday meal registers. Of the 220 days mandated by the Right to Education Act, just 42 days were spent on teaching in 2015-16. * * * * *

Obesity

The prevalence of obesity was 4.7 among every 100 men in 1990 but the figure rose to 11.6 in 2016. In the case of women, the trend is equally disturbing: In 1990, only 8 women among 100 were obese while in 2016, the prevalence rose to 17.7. Kerala has recorded a 216.8% increase in obesity prevalence among men and 159.8% rise among women in the same 26-year period. In Punjab, 40.3% women and 35% men are obese while in Goa, 37.3% women and 36.15% men are obese. * * * * *
