Ambarella is one of the least known fruits to the modern world, which is gaining popularity very quickly in American countries. Ambarella commonly known as kedondong is a tropical tree, with edible fruit containing a fibrous pit. It is known by many names in various regions; some of the popular names are Golden apple, Hog plum, Jew plum, Otaheite apple, Polynesian plum, Tahitian quince and Yellow plum. It is now cultivated widely in South America, Central America, the Caribbean Islands, U.S.A., Africa and Australia.

   Ambarella is a perennial, deciduous, semi-evergreen plant, which is commonly grown in tropical, sub-tropical regions and south-east Asia. This highly ornamental tree is a rapid grower reaching a height of 12 to 25m high. The small white flowers are borne in large bunches with male, female and perfect flowers within  each cluster.
