    The World Cup Final between Argentina and Germany created new Twitter and Facebook records. A total of 6,18,725 tweets per minute and 280 million interactions on the Facebook showed the extent of the usage worldwide. From Brazil’s iconic player, Pele, to Master Aiyappan (name changed) in Thrissur in Kerala, millions were glued to the Internet closely following the game. There were 100, 000 wireless devices in use every day of the tournament in Brazil alone, operated by over 600,000 fans.

    The full FIFA was watched by a record 3.2 billion people worldwide as against just 9.6 million (yes million) in 2010 on broadcast TV. FIFA-2014 was noted for the introduction of a range of most sophisticated technologies in sports based on the Internet. An advanced camera system was installed in all the 12 stadia including seven focused on each goalpost.
