The moon is waiting …

   Man’s footsteps fell for the first time on a heavenly body on July 20, 1969. They belonged to Neil Armstrong who died on August 25, 2012 at the age of 82. He was our first ambassador to the lone satellite of ours, the moon.

   His words, spoken just before he stepped on the moon, “One small step for a man; a giant leap for mankind” are engraved in the history of human civilization. Less well known, though, is the first message radioed to the earth, “The Eagle has landed”, six hours before he stepped out of the landing craft named, Eagle. The crew of Apollo-11 mission consisted of Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins.

   Only Armstrong and Aldrin went down to the moon and walked for 2 ½ hours. Collins was in charge of the mother craft, Command Module, orbiting the moon at 110 km. Including Armstrong and Aldrin, 12 human beings left their footprints on the moon during the course of....
