Indian Human Rights Activist on Sri Lankan Probe Panel

    An internationally acclaimed human rights activist and a widely recognized champion of the under privileged and marginalized sections of the society, Prof. Avdhash Kaushal who heads the Dehradun based NGO (Non - Government Organisation) RLEK (Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra) has been invited by the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to serve as a member of the Sri Lankan panel advising its Presidential Commission on the missing persons in the Northern Province of the country which had for long been a theatre of a violent separatist war. Significantly, it was on the personal request of Sri Lankan President that Kaushal agreed to serve as a member of this panel that will have as its mandate probing the allegations of human rights violations by both Sri Lankan defence forces and guerillas of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eeelam (LTTE) led by Vellupillai Prabhakaran.
