Dead Poets Society A challenge to conformity

    Dead Poets Society (1989) is an American drama film directed by Peter Weir and written by Tom Schulman. Starring Robin Williams, Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke, Josh Charles, Gale Hansen and Norman Lloyd among others, this movie is set in at a fictional elite conservative boarding school for boys, named Welton Academy. It follows the story of an English teacher, John Keating (Robin Williams), who inspires his students to dream by means of his poetry classes.

The Plot

   The movie begins with the commencement of a new term at the school, and the scene captures the spirit of a typical reopening day at a boarding school – there are nervous, crying students as well as parents and there are enthusiastic ones too. During the reopening ceremony, the headmaster talks about the legacy of the academy and introduces John Keating, a former student at the school, who has just joined as a teacher.
