The Government of India launched the new National Education Policy (NEP) on 29th July 2020 paving way for transformational reforms in school and higher education sector in the country. It replaces the previous National Policy on Education 1986, which was later modified in 1992.

     With this, the human resource development (HRD) ministry will officially be renamed the Ministry of Education. The expenditure on education will be enhanced to 6% of GDP. Earlier, it was only 2.7% of GDP (2017-2018).

    The implementation of this Policy will be led by various bodies including the Education Ministry, Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE), Union and State Governments, education-related Ministries, State Departments of Education, Boards, National Testing Agency (NTA) , the regulatory bodies of school and higher education, NCERT, SCERTs, schools, and higher educational institutions.
