The Panjab University is one of the oldest universities in India. The university campus is located in the city of Chandigarh and is spread over an area of 550 acres in sectors 14 and 25 of the city. The University has 46 teaching and research departments and 10 Centres/Chairs for teaching and research at the main campus located at Chandigarh. It has 172 affiliated colleges spread over Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, Regional Centres at Muktsar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Swami Sarvanand Giri Regional Centre Hoshiarpur.

   The University holds an Entrance Test (PU MPET) every year for enrolment to M.Phil. and Ph.D. in the Faculties of Arts, Business Management and Commerce, Design and Fine Arts, Education, Engineering, Languages, Law, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Science.
