She wove the warp and weft of the cultural fabric of Ahmedabad. And her memory will live on for years to come for her iconic contribution in choreographing a number of classical dance dramas. The art aficionados of Ahmedabad, though, will remain indebted to late internationally acclaimed danseuse Mrinalini Sarabhai, for the cozy amphitheatre that she gifted way back in 1994. 

   The theatre was named Natarani after Mrinalini by her illustrious danseuse daughter Mallika as her mother was indeed the queen of the stage. Three years after Mrinalini’s death in January 2016, Mallika has now brought to Ahmedabad the new look state-of-the-art Natarani amphitheatre that is wedded to sustainability and ethnicity. An amphitheatre is an open-air venue for performances and entertainment. The term derives from the Greek ‘amphi’ meaning on both sides and ‘theatron’ meaning place for viewing.
