I f a serious patient dies, the relatives often go ballistic and charge doctors with negligence. At times, the country’s one-million-odd allopathic doctors, especially private medicos and also those in the country’s 35,000 government hospitals, are branded as butchers by many when they have to pay through their nose for treatment.

   Others also make light of the mediciners by accusing them of being handin-glove with pharmaceutical companies who, they feel, reward the healers with foreign jaunts. But not all doctors have itching palms as proved by the yeoman’s service rendered by the countless honest-to-boot doctors.
