In perspective
Through psychical injuries have never been a secret in sports, neurological injuries are being taken seriously; with brain now being the researcher’s primary focus on sports related injuries. The impetus is provided by highly publicized incidents of sports related deaths; due to brain injuries, the tragic death of Marco Simoncelli, MotoGP rider, in a horrific crash at the Malaysian MotoGP in Sepang in 2011, and more recently the death of Australian Cricketer Philip Huges; due to traumatic head injury in 2014. The date December 29th is permanently etched in sports fans’ minds as it marks the anniversary of Michael Schumacher’s skiing incident which resulted in formula 1 legend suffering life changing injuries. Other sports personalities were more fortunate, the likes of, Petr Cech; accidental collision while playing in a English Premier League match for Chelsea as goalkeeper in 2006 and Jordan Rapana; full back of Canberra....
