India is known for non-stop fiesta. At any time of the year, all over the country, festivals celebrating religion, rituals, the phases of the seasons, culture and epic stories are on. Among them BATHUKAMMA is largely a unique women’s celebration, much like Pongala of Attukaal in Kerala popularly known as the ‘Sabarimala of Women’.

   There is one difference - Bathukamma is a State Festival while Pongala is purely a ritualistic religious fest. The BATHUKAMMA Panduga (festival) is one of the most unique festivals of Andhra Pradesh especially of Telangana region. During the festival, Goddess Gauri is worshipped in the form of Bathukamma. Women seek her blessings for prosperity and a good year. It is also the icon of cultural identity of Telangana.

     A few days ago Telangana, the youngest state in the Indian Republic, celebrated its first Bathukamma Panduga, marvellously. It has even entered the Guinness....
