The Nizams of Hyderabad have left a massive legacy in art, architecture and education creating a grand city. One such monument is the Chowmahalla palace in the center of Hyderabad. Chowmahalla, therefore, means four palaces. It was Nizam Salabhat Jung that began the construction of this palace in 1750 but it was completed only between 1857 and 1869.
Chowmahalla, the seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty was where the Nizam’s entertained their royal and official guests. Built over 200 years ago, this palace is famous for its unique style, a mix of different architectural schools and many influences. Filled with glass work on the ceiling, it has over 30 chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. When lighted these Belgium glass chandeliers create a magical feel to the whole place.
