Home gardening is the new trend with people growing a part of their vegetables and fruits in balcony pots. While greens such as spinach, black nightshade, fenugreek and coriander are the predominant greens, tomato and chillies are the most easy to grow pot plants.

Born in 1911 in Hulikal village of Karnataka, Thimmakka was married off to a labourer Bikkala Chikkayya when she was 17 years old. Soon enough the couple realized that they couldn’t have children. That was when Thimmakka decided to shower her motherly affection on plants.
