y Amid the debate on the notification banning the sale of cattle for slaughter, a Judge at the Rajasthan High Court asks the state to get the cow declared a national animal and wanted the penalty for cow slaughter raised from the ten year prison term to life term.

y Scotland Yard is opening its door to those interested in becoming detectives directly without having to serve in the ranks of Metropolitan Police. There are currently some 600 detective vacancies in London. The new scheme is aiming to hire up to 80 detectives initially with a starting salary of just under £ 30, 000.
