Chekkurmanis often dubbed as star gooseberry or star leaf, is one of the most popular leaf vegetables in South Asia and Southeast Asia and is notable for high yields and palatability. The shoot tips have been sold as tropical asparagus. Scientifically the plant is known as Sauropus androgynous. It is a perennial leafy vegetable. It is a native of India and Burma.
The plant grows wild in the evergreen forests of the Western Ghats and in the southern parts of Kerala. Chekkurmanis is also called as multi vitamin and multi mineral packed leaf vegetable.
