In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the contribution of the port led development to the growth of national economy and as such focussed endeavours are on to achieve good performance of ports and harbours through a variety of schemes.

   Needless to mention, the Indian Government led by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen on accelerating the process of port led development by boosting coastal shipping in a big way. What’s more, India’s Shipping Ministry is clear in its perception that the port led development has a plethora of social and economic benefits and one of the most important advantages stemming from such a strategy is the decongestion of rail and road networks.

   It is against this backdrop that there is a growing emphasis on giving a quickening impetus to the Sagaramala project whose cardinal objective is to promote port led development along India’s 7.500-km long coastline.....
