Zika virus is a mosquitoborne virus infection that was first isolated in1947 in Uganda. Later on, several cases of Zika virus infections were identified in humans in Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania in 1952. In 2007 and 2013, the outbreak of Zika virus disease was reported for the first time from the Pacific and in 2015 from the Americas and Africa. In fact, sporadic Zika virus infections have been reported from more than 13 countries in the Americas suggesting rampant geographic expansion of the virus.
Symptoms:
Zika virus infection is mainly transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. The disease is characterized by various symptoms that include mild fever, rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, and malaise or headache. These symptoms usually last for 2-7 days.
