Besides food, plants provide us numerous cheap and efficacious medicines of indigenous origin. For medicinal purpose, mostly, the plant extracts or the active substances in them are made use that possesses a definite action in human system. As different part of the plant contains different properties, only those parts which contain efficient properties are used for the preparation of drugs in Ayurveda. Whole plant is used, in cases, where herbs possess one uniform component or ‘rasa’ in all their parts. It is also preferable that those drugs, whose principles are easily soluble or separable, are chosen for the preparation of the drug.
