Ahmedabad prides itself on its iconic design school called the National Institute of Design (NID) which keeps re-inventing itself while focusing on its social role and offering designs which can be socially responsible. A conspicuous shift from mere style to the need. In one such project recently, the postgraduate students of Furniture and Interior Design (FID) collaborated with Sabarmati Central prison authorities in Ahmedabad to build their brand called Jail Se for their various products made by the inmates. The trigger came when professor Pravinsinh Solanki, Associate Senior Faculty at NID was invited by the prison authorities to organise fashion parade at the prison premises for an event.
