In the past, for centuries the mentally ill persons were thought to have been possessed by devils and they used to be locked up in jail-like buildings away from localities and alienated from society. It was only in the 20th Century that Psychiatry began to be scientifically understood and began to advance with the contributions of Psychiatrists like Sigmund Freud who gave new concepts in the treatment of the mentally ill.
With further advancement, mental patients can now be admitted and treated in a general hospital like any other disease. This was a great achievement. Mental Health is not merely the absence of mental illness.
So, who is a mentally healthy person? He is a person who feels comfortable with himself and feels reasonably secured. Also, he feels right towards others and has a lasting and satisfying friendship with them.
Finally, he can meet the demands of life and make his own decisions.....
