K.Kelappan alias Kelappaji (1889-1971) who earned the soubriquet of ‘Kerala Gandhi’ was a legendary figure as a freedom fighter, Gandhian, parliamentarian, administrator, socialist thinker, editor and a social reformer. He led an eventful life combating the evils present in our society on the one hand and fighting the British rule on the other. He was born in a small village of Muchukunnu, near Koyilandi in Kozhikkode District of Kerala on August 24, 1889.

  He studied in Kozhikkode and Madras and graduated from the University of Madras. In the Days of his college life, Kelappan acquired an abiding interest in social service and higher values of life. He began his career as a teacher in the St. Berchmans High School, Changanassery. Kelappan was one of the founders and founder president of the Nair Sabha, later known as Nair Service Society, which was formed in 1914 under the leadership of Mannath Padmanabhan, another renowned social reformer.....
