Ahmedabad, as one thinks of the city, what comes to mind is Gandhiji, Sabarmati and Narendra Modi. A crowded city that is old and new at the same time. But there is more to Ahmedabad than just these. You have to get into the crowd and on the streets to really feel the city.

   Without that you will never understand a city of this calibre. Ahmedabad is the largest city in Gujarat and the capital city till sometime back. It is located on the shores of the river Sabarmati and is an important economic and industrial hub. It is also a historic city and is a World heritage city with UNESCO. The city first came into being in the 11th century and was called ‘Ashaval.’

   The Chalukyan ruler of Patan fought and won the battle against the Bhil king of Ashaval and renamed the city as ‘Karnavati.’ Later rulers of Karnavati were the Solanki’s and then Vaghela’s. In the 14th century it came under the Delhi....
