The proclamation was a landmark in the history of Travancore and later in rest of Kerala as well. It was not only regarded as advancement in social reform but also an inseparable episode of the national movement in Kerala for the struggle for civil rights. The state government observes the proclamation day as social reformation day. The Proclamation attracted attention and admiration from the entire country. It was praised from every corner. Mahatma Gandhi called the proclamation ‘the great wonder of modern times’.

   Subhas Chandra Bose and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel hailed it the herald of a new era in India. The Universities of Banaras and Andhra gifted Chithira Thirunal with honorary degrees. C. Rajagopalachari stated that the proclamation brought the dawn of a bright era in Hinduism. The Prime Minister of Madras described the Proclamation as the “greatest religious reform in India after the time of Asoka”.
