Down the ages, cutting across the barriers of religion and culture, the women across the world have been suffering in silence in the context of the abuse and discrimination they are being subjected to by the male dominated society. Even to this day, there is no let-up in the violence against women which assumes a variety of disturbing shapes --from domestic violence and rape to child marriage and female circumcision. By all means, the violence against women constitutes the violation of the fundamental human rights. From cradle to grave, women are being subjected to all round exploitation with serious consequences for their physical and mental well- being.
