Thanks to the widely acclaimed “White Revolution” ushered in by the ambitious “Operation Flood” programme conceived and successfully implemented by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) headquartered at Anand, India has now emerged as the largest milk producer in the world.
Once a little known town in the Western Indian state of India, Anand has become synonymous with the success story that the country has scripted in the area of “White Revolution.” Even as India has earned the distinction of being the numero uno milk producer in the world, the per capita availability of milk in the country leaves much to be desired. This far from pleasant state of affair is attributed to the low purchasing power of a large segment of the Indian population.
