During the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to France, the Departments of Posts of both the countries released two stamps and a miniature sheet on the theme :’ IndiaFrance: 50 Years of Space Co-operation’.This joint issue shows the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) of ISRO in flight and the two satellites launched by it: the Megha-Tropiques (launched in 2011) and SARAL (2013). Both these are Earth-observing satellites (also known as remote sensing satellites).
While Megha-Tropiques is for the study of water cycle and energy exchange in the tropics, SARAL is intended for oceanographic studies.
