Khuda Bakhsh Library established in 1891 by Khuda Baksh Khan, has emerged as an exceptional Centre for Oriental Studies, Indian art and culture today. It was declared as an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament in 1969.
The library, which has been functioning as an autonomous institution, attracts scholars from all over the world who visit the library for its invaluable collection of Arabic, Persian and Urdu manuscripts and original paintings of the Mughal, Iranian and Turkish Schools. Besides the acquisition and the preservation of manuscripts, the library is a centre of intensive research and brings out a monthly research journal. International seminars, especially those involving SAARC Countries, and Research Congresses have become regular features of the Library.
