U.S.A. wishes to declare the Apollo 11 landing site on the moon as a National History Landmark. This site was once earlier named by Neil Armstrong as “Tranquility Base” on July 20, 1969. Is there any problem? When something belongs to more than one person, clearly, a need for some system of law is indicated – in reality, though, even the best law cannot entirely prevent chaos!

   The region above 100 km from the earth’s surface is defined as ‘Outer Space’ – or more often as just ‘Space’. We have been in Space Age for over half a century, and there is what goes by the name, ‘Space Law’. Space Age began with Sputnik-1, the earth’s first artificial satellite launched by the Soviet Union on October 4, 1957.

   Numerous satellites, and also space probes headed for the moon, planets and beyond have since been launched. Human presence in space has become a regular....
