Time was when the slow moving Indian aerospace sector was synonymous with the state owned aeronautical major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). However, the 2001 landmark decision to open up the Indian defence and aerospace sectors to private sector participation gave a new thrust and direction to the otherwise lacklustre Indian aerospace sector.

   And with the Narendra Modi Government making vigorous efforts to encourage Indian industry including those in the private sector to take up the challenge of building the entire defence aircraft in India, the Indian aerospace sector is now in the process of acquiring a momentum for “take off” to greater heights of achievements. Indeed private sector enterprises in India are all gearing up to position themselves as the “movers and shakers” of the aerospace sector in the country.
