In keeping with its motto of reaching the unreached and including the excluded, the Dehradun based Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra(RLEK), has been actively focusing on spreading the light of literacy amongst the forest dwelling nomadic groups, marginalized hill tribes and socio-economically disadvantaged communities in the state of Uttarakhand which came into being in the year 2000.

   The ambitious and well conceived educational and literacy programme of RLEK is directed at building a society that is free from discrimination and exploitation even while allowing every individual equal opportunities and the right to utilize his potentials to the optimum level.

   It was during the course of implementing various welfare schemes for the benefit of the socially isolated, forest dwelling nomadic tribe of Van Gujjars that RLEK came to realize that the long term and abiding solution for the problems faced by the community lay....
