You might have come across this term which is gaining popularity in the recent past, along with minimalism, as antidotes to the undue influence of consumerism and materialism which have engulfed the world and kept it in its grip for several decades.

  Simply put, mindfulness is ‘the art and practice of focusing on the present’, without any concern for the future or regrets for the past. Slowly its scope is widening. ‘Now’ is all we have.

  ‘Now’ is the virgin moment, unsullied and untampered with. But, before we pronounce the word ‘now’, it has already become past. Then where is the present? A difficult question to answer. If the past is a bundle of memories, the future is a bunch of wishes, hopes and anxieties. We have only the present with us to cherish and safeguard and make full use of it.
