I realized Dubai was not my cup of tea as soon as I stepped on the asphalt outside the airport. A concrete jungle, the skyscrapers and the lights reminded me of my dislike of all that was man-made.

   The disappointment outweighed the excitement of being in a new country - famed for its riches and modernity. Being a nature lover, I longed for a glimpse into the heart of the place - its desert. The break came after a week when we planned a desert trip. The first activity was Dune Bashing - a variant of off-roading.

   The roller coaster drive through the sand dunes was thrilling. I held on to the sides as the mighty Land Rover, with air let out from the tires for grip, rolled and tipped over the sandy dunes. It was better than the amusement park rides and the view from the front seat was quite scary as I didn’t know what abyss I was falling into.
