Throughout history, there has never been an equal balance by both genders, in one way or the other male perspectives used to be dominating. However, some of these women poets in India fiercely broke the mould and created a new landscape leaving their benchmark. Let us see some of them below:

Toru Dutta

  Born in 1856, Toru Dutta was WOMEN POWER Anjali R. Nair Five great Indian women poetesses you should know about the first Indian poetess to write in English. In 1870s during her short stay abroad, she had studied French. She was well known as the Keats of Indo-English Literature. Her magnum opus remains A Sheaf Gleaned in French Fields, which was published in 1876. The work was a collection of English translations of French poetry that Toru had begun along with her elder sister Aru. It was published by a small press in Calcutta without a preface or introduction. Dutta passed away at the age of 21 on August 30, 1877, suffering from tuberculosis.....
