Water, the precious liquid considered a unique gift of nature, has been sustaining life on earth for thousands of years now. However, a rapid expansion of human population is placing a severe and intolerable strain on the fast dwindling water resources which is by no means an infinite natural asset. India and China, the two most populous countries are now on the throes of a severe water crisis. For long, strategic analysts have been driving home the point that if oil was the cause of regional conflicts in the last century, water could very well be the trigger of the wars during the current century. For the shortage and uneven distribution of water could spur tension and unrest leading to conflicts. For the water stressed India the bad news is the forecast of poor monsoon due to El Nino factor. For it is presumed that odds of the El Nino weather phenomenon, which is centred around Pacific Ocean, developing this year have increased.
