The genre of historical fiction is mostly always a safe bet for an interesting read. That is the reason why I chose to spend time reading this 600 odd pages written by Hillary Mantel. Incidentally, Mantel also received the Man Booker Prize for this in 2009. Titled Wolf Hall, this is a fictional portrayal of one of the most turbulent times of English history. Set in Tudor England when King Henry VIII is on the throne, this book retells events from the point of view of Thomas Cromwell, a ruthlessly ambitious and highly intelligent courtier at Henry VIII’s Palace.

  To understand the context a little better it is good to know the actual events that took place around which this fiction builds itself. King Henry VII was the first Tudor monarch of England who ascends the throne in 1485. He is succeeded by his second son who comes to the throne as King Henry VIII.
