Located about 12 km southeast of the temple city of Madurai along the banks of the Vaigai river in Tamil Nadu, Keeladi is a Sangam period (history of ancient Tamil Nadu, Kerala and parts of Sri Lanka) settlement. A large-scale excavation is being conducted in the Keeladi site by the Archaeological Survey of India and the Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology (TNSDA).
