Learning is essential to our existence, as it nourishes our minds and sooths our souls. Be it for any kind of professional growth or personal development that we aspire for — learning is the path through which we can attain those goals. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines learning as ‘the activity or process of gaining knowledge or skill by studying, practising, being taught or experiencing something; the activity of someone who learns; knowledge or skill gained from learning.’
In 1970 Noel Burch, of Gordon Training International, developed the four stages of learning previously described by management trainer Martin M. Broadwell in 1969. These four stages, sometimes incorrectly attributed to Abraham Maslow, provide us with some suggestions on how we learn things. The four stages are: (1) unconscious incompetence, (2)conscious incompetence, (3) conscious competence and (4) unconscious competence.
