In the exhaustive list published recently by the Stanford University, U.S.A., 1492 Indians have found a place with the majority of them being from IITs, IISc, and other top institutes. There were 16 Indian scientists who are ranked 30 or higher in the world in their respective fields. The list represents the top two per cent of the most-cited scientists in various disciplines using a cumulative career citation (c-index) as a guide.
The survey has given the scope to know where they (researchers) really stand in terms of contributing to science in the respective fields. Such studies encourage potential researchers to put in more vigour and zeal to do meaningful research. The list provides standardized information on citations, h-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator.
