One of the ways of defeating the devil aka SARS-CoV2 is to study it in detail using a method known as genome sequencing. Just as letters in a word make sense only if they are in the right sequence, chemical letters in the genetic alphabet (A,T, C and G or U) that make up our DNA need to be put in the right sequence to decode their meaning — a process known as genetic sequencing. Sequence data can highlight changes in a gene that may cause disease.

The devil they say is in the details. Nowhere is it more relevant than in the study of mutants of the Coronavirus. Genome sequencing, aided by super computers, has enabled scientists to probe the details of the mutants. In the process, genome sequencing has emerged as an angel of numerous benefits.

Measures to increase the production of vaccines and introduce new ones are thus critical. In this context, the decision to allow Russia’s Sputnik V for emergency use is....
