Rugged face, sinewy body and bloodshot eyes. That is the popular image of your male cabbie. Interestingly, there is a quiet revolution now taking place and the well mannered women equipped with driving skills are now entering that space, thanks to an NGO called Janvikas in the metro city of Ahmedabad.

  Janvikas has been working in Gujarat since 1987 towards initiating sustainable changes in the lives of the poor, marginalized and disadvantaged communities which includes women and urban poor. Taking cue from a similar project run by Azad Foundation in New Delhi, Janvikas launched the ‘DriverBen project’ in Ahmedabad in January 2016 with the support of Aazad foundation.

   Part of its U-Live programme, Janvikas seeks to create a favourable ecosystem to sustain women drivers in the economy and thereby explore areas of social transformation through its distinct ‘DriverBen project’.
