Spiders often instill fear and aversion in most people. But the spider has found its place in nursery rhymes, fairy tales, witchcraft, Halloweens, movies and even in the Hindu epic Sree Bhagavatha Purana. The nursery rhyme about spider and Miss Muffet eating her curd and whey is quite famous. And in the well-known Bruce and Spider story, a spider inspires the dejected king Robert Bruce to “Try, try again till you succeed”. And the movie Spiderman has been a crowd puller. But the most outstanding fact is that in the Bhagavatha Purana, spider is designated as one of the “Gurus” (teachers). Once King Yadu saw Lord Dattatreya (Avadhoot) wandering in a forest happily, free from worries. The king with humbleness asked the sage, about the secret of his happiness and the name of his Guru.
