The warp and weft of the fabric of her life were rich enough for her to live in the memory of all who she touched or were touched by her long and splendidly rich life. Her memory will remain a treasure and she will be loved beyond words and missed beyond measure by her friends, students and acquaintances.

   Gira Sarabhai who pioneered design education in India and the youngest and last surviving of the illustrious Sarabhai siblings passed away at the age of 97 on 15 July this year in Ahmedabad.

  Daughter of Ambalal Sarabhai (1890- 1967) philanthropist and Indian industrialist and one of the earliest supporters of Mahatma Gandhi, Gira Sarabhai was the sister of Vikram Sarabhai who is well-known as the father of Indian space programme.
