An overview
In the book, Skousen narrates how in the past three centuries, the economists; Smith, Marx and Keynes, have influenced the economic policies of the world. Skousen does this by going into it in a linear order. First the author takes us to the eighteenth century to meet, Adam Smith, a student of the Scottish Enlightenment, who expanded on ‘a system of natural liberty’ and clarified how a nation flourishes and advances the standard of living of its citizens. Second we are taken into the nineteenth century to the German philosopher Karl Marx, whose works attracted and inspired workers and intellectuals who felt oppressed by the industrial capitalism and sought solution to inequality, and exploitation of the underprivileged. And thirdly, we are taken to the twentieth century where the British economist John Maynard Keynes is introduced, whowanted to stabilize the market system through activist, fiscal and monetary government....
