Google’s technological initiative to propel digital India with its pledge of ten billion U.S. dollars is commendable. Its success would, however, depend on overcoming the tremendous challenges posed by India’s inadequate infrastructure and social inequalities.

    Amidst constant reports of gloom in the wake of Covid-19 spread, Google’s chief executive Sundar Pichai’s recent pledge to spend $10 billion in India over the next 5-7 years to propel India’s digital revolution has come as a silver lining in the cloud.

    The funds will help accelerate Google’s efforts to spread connectivity and adopt digital technologies through a mix of equity investments, partnerships, operations, infrastructure, and ecosystem investments.
